About This Stamp
This Wheatland stamp depicts Wheatland, the home of President James Buchanan, near Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The brick house, designed in the Federal style, was constructed in 1828 by William Jenkins. It was purchased by Buchanan two decades later. Buchanan successfully ran a “front porch campaign” from Wheatland for the presidential election of 1856. The home is now a National Historic Site.
