About This Stamp

This stamp issuance honors W.E.B. Du Bois, who was a critic, editor, scholar, author, civil rights leader, and one of the most influential African-Americans of both the 19th and 20th centuries. He is often called the “father of social science” for his trail-blazing approach to studying social systems and phenomena. He was one of the founders of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), and he served for 25 years as the editor-in-chief of the NAACP’s Crisis magazine.
