About This Stamp

The Postal Service issued the Steam Carriage stamp on January 25, 1991, in Tucson, Arizona, as part of the Transportation series. The design by Richard Schlecht depicts the 1866 Richard Dudgeon, which is on display at the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History in Washington, D.C.

The stamps were engraved through the intaglio process by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing and issued in coils of 500 and 3,000.
