About This Stamp
This Pony Express Centennial stamp commemorates the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Pony Express. This delivery service, which carried mail, newspapers, and small packages, ran for 18 months on a route between St. Joseph, Missouri, to Sacramento, California. Riders traveled over 75 miles each in a relay system, which helped reduce travel time along the route to about 10 days. The Pony Express ended once overland telegraph connections were completed.
