About This Stamp

This Liberty issue stamp features Patrick Henry, one of the Founding Fathers of the United States. Henry was born in the colony of Virginia in 1736. He was a champion for American independence from British rule. He is best remembered for his “give me liberty or give me death” speech. As an anti-Federalist, he was against the ratification of the United States Constitution. He was an ardent supporter of states' rights and was instrumental in having the Bill of Rights adopted to amend the Constitution. He later served as Governor of Virginia from 1776 to 1779 and from 1784 to 1786.
