About This Stamp
This National Guard stamp honors the National Guard of the United States, a reserve military force. The National Guard originated from the militias of the colonies, making the group the oldest military organization in the United States. Units can be activated by the governors of the states in which they reside or by the president of the United States to assist during times of war or upon declaration of a state of emergency. This stamp features an image of National Guardsman, an amphibious landing and disaster service.
