John Fitzgerald Kennedy Memorial

This issuance honors John F. Kennedy, the 36th President of the United States. He was born in Massachusetts in 1917 and served during the Second World War as the commander of a PT boat in the Pacific Theater. In 1946, he was elected to the United State House of Representatives and later, the United States Senate in 1952. He won the nomination for president, and narrowly won the election against Richard Nixon in 1960. He was assassinated by Lee Harvey Oswald during a motorcade procession in Dallas, Texas, on November 22, 1963. The stamp features a portrait of Kennedy and an image of the Eternal Flame, located at his gravesite in Arlington National Cemetery.
