About This Stamp
In 1995, USPS issued definitive stamps in two different flag designs. The first to appear, on March 17, was for vending in automated teller machines (ATMs) and depicted a flag waving over a farm field. (The second design showed a flag hanging over a residential porch.)
The stamp was designed by Sabra Field, a woodcut print specialist from South Royalton, Vermont. Her artwork, a cut-paper collage, showed a portion of the red and white stripes, blue field, and white stars of an American flag waving over a field, with blue hills in the far distance, all highly stylized.
