About This Stamp

A 20-cent commemorative stamp recognizing Family Unity was issued October 1, 1984, in Shaker Heights, Ohio. The First Day of Ceremony was held in the auditorium of the Shaker Heights Senior High School, from which Molly LaRue, the designer of the stamp, had graduated the previous year.

The stamp design, featuring three stick figures and representing the theme of family unity, was one of the finalists of the first nationwide student stamp design project sponsored by the U.S. Postal Service in 1982. Two winning designs, eight semifinalist designs, and 33 honorable mentions were selected from more than a half a million entries.

The stamp was printed in the gravure/intaglio process.
