About This Stamp
Former Chief Justice of the United States Earl Warren was honored on a 29-cent Great Americans series stamp issued March 9, 1992, in Washington, D.C.
Warren was named the 14th chief justice of the United States by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1953. Throughout his term as chief justice (1953–1969), Warren showed a marked sensitivity to claims of governmental infringement on civil liberties and was hailed as a courageous leader seeking to adapt legal rules to modern conditions in light of moral considerations.
Designed by Christopher Calle, the stamps were engraved through the intaglio process by Stamp Venturers, Inc., with panes of 100.
