About This Stamp
This Doctors Mayo stamp commemorates Dr. William James Mayo and Dr. Charles Horace Mayo. The Mayo Brothers were surgeons that founded the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. They also established the Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and Research in affiliation with the University of Minnesota. Their private family practice eventually evolved into a nonprofit medical practice and research group. The stamp features an image of a profile portrait sculpture of the Mayo Brothers by James Earle Fraser.
