About This Stamp
This Charles Evans Hughes stamp features a portrait of Charles Evan Hughes, who was a lawyer and politician that served in a variety of roles, including Governor of New York. He was appointed to the Supreme Court by President William Howard Taft in 1910. He resigned from the court in 1916 in order to run for President but lost to Woodrow Wilson to become the Republican Party’s nominee. He served as Secretary of State under President Warren G. Harding and later was appointed as Chief Justice of the United States by President Herbert Hoover.
