Battle of New Orleans

This Battle of New Orleans stamp commemorates the sesquicentennial of the Battle of New Orleans, the final major battle of the War of 1812. The battle occurred on the Chalmette Plantation in Louisiana and resulted in an American victory. While the Treaty of Ghent, the peace treaty that ended the War of 1812, was ratified by the British on December 30, 1814, news did not reach the United States until after the Battle of New Orleans. The treaty was not ratified by the United States Senate until February 18, 1815. The stamp features an image of General Andrew Jackson in battle and two sides of the sesquicentennial medal.
