About This Stamp

The 15-cent Albert Einstein (1879–1955) stamp was available on March 4, 1979. Bradbury Thompson designed the stamp, referring to a photograph by Herman Landshoff for inspiration. Einstein was one of the pioneers of quantum theory and is renowned for his theory of relativity. A German Jew, he was in the U.S. when Hitler seized power in Germany in 1933. He thereafter held a post at Princeton's Institute of Advanced Study. He became an American citizen in 1941.
